Betty McClellan Greer, 83, Columbus, GA, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at her residence.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, March 31, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Reverend Kathi Parchem officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00-6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Greer was born January 3, 1931 in Phenix City, AL daughter of the late Franklin Bowden McClellan and Madelle Bird McClellan. She was a graduate of Central High School, worked for Southern Bell in the Business Office for several years later graduating from Columbus College now Columbus State University, and retired from Hardaway High School after 20 years. After retirement, she was a member of the Medical Center Auxiliary, working in the gift shop. Also, she worked at McMullen Funeral Home as a secretary/ receptionist. After traveling for many years with her husband and friends, she decided to go back into the teaching field. She then substituted at Hardaway and Shaw High Schools where she made many new friends. She was a member of Edgewood Presbyterian Church and the First Place Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Maturing in Christ Life Group.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lewis Greer; two sisters, Patsy McClellan Harrison and Joanne McClellan Wade; brother-in-laws, William Wade and Jim Dunaway.
Survivors include her two sons, Russell L. Greer (Karen) of Woodstock, GA and Jeffrey W. Greer of Columbus, GA; sisters; Cecille McMullen (James) of Columbus, GA and Camille Dunaway of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Greer of Woodstock, GA, Emily A. Greer of Columbus, GA, Melissa L. Freeman of Norman, OK, Katlyn L. Freeman of Woodstock, GA, Julie A. Hassinger of Enid, OK, and Gregory A. Whary, Jr. of Lewistown, PA; and her beloved dog, Lulu.
