Bette F. Hankins, 75, Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, July 7, 2017 at Britt David Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Jones and Mr. Carter Barrow officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Hankins was born February 15, 1942 in Muskogee, OK, daughter of the late Mark Virgil Purdom and Pollyanna Grinstead Purdom. She retired from The Muscogee County School District having taught at Mathews Elementary. Mrs. Hankins was a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital Gift Shop and Cheer Cart and was a member of Britt David Baptist Church. She loved her family, was a dedicated Oklahoma Sooner Fan and loved to cook, quilt and embroider.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth G. Hankins and siblings, Juanita McDaniel, Joy Purdom, Ruben Purdom, Junior Purdom, Louise Purdom, Bill Purdom, Mark Purdom, Mildred Purdom, Royal Purdom and Doyal Purdom, and Shirley Cameron.
Survivors include her daughters, Brandi Sadler (Shaun) of Columbus, GA and Marci D. Walters (Dan) of Smiths Station, AL; 6 grandchildren, Hannah Lawson of Columbus, GA, C. J. Lawson of Columbus, GA, Brianna Currington of Smith Station, AL Austin Sadler of Columbus, GA, Rebecca Walters of Opelika, AL and Zack Walters, of Phenix City, AL; and two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Emma Walters; her fur babies, Boomer and DeDe; brother-in-law, Charles "Bud" Cameron, Broken Arrow, OK; sisters-in-law, Janell Childers of Moore, OK, Lois Purdom of Porum, OK, Donna Purdom Brown of Porum, OK and Myrt Purdom of Whitefield, OK.
Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909.
