Bernard Wayne McVey, 77 of Box Springs, GA died peacefully surrounded by his family at home Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 9, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Ed Rollins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the service.

Mr. McVey was born March 4, 1947 in Meadowview, VA to the late Richard McVey and Ada Widener McVey. He earned his bachelor’s degree of Arts in Biblical Education at Tennessee Temple Bible School. His unwavering faith in the Lord resonated throughout his life. For 42 years, he preached from the King James Version of the English Bible as a missionary in Central America and beyond. During his missionary work, he established 17 churches. Feeling the need to support the community, he served as a substitute teacher for 10 years with one year teaching at the Youth Detention Center. During this time, he continued to touch the lives of many young men and women.  In his later years, he was the owner and operator of successful restaurant in Buena Vista, GA for 15 years. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and a cherished friend. His love was a constant source of strength and support for everyone that knew him. In his past he loved gardening and being outdoors hunting and fishing.

Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his son, John McVey.

Bernard is survived by his wife, Yolanda McVey of Box Springs, GA, son, Kaleb McVey and his fiancé Angela Roberts & her son, Kevin Gaitan of Fortson, GA. Daughter, Perla McVey of Box Springs, GA, grandsons, Raylan McVey of Box Springs, GA, Brandon McVey of Fortson, GA, Alexander McVey of Fortson, GA, granddaughter, Ashley Hart (Jarrod) of Bristol, VA, great-grandson, Isaiah Hart, sisters, Sandra Welch, Sharon Rogers (Dan), Rita McVey, Ruby Wright (Charlie), Patricia Roake (Robert) and brother, Jeff McVey (Lynn), numerous nieces and nephews.
