Barry Hunt Jones

Barry Hunt Jones, 86, of McDonough, GA died Monday, December 27, 2021 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 3:00PM, Thursday, December 30, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Jim Hilderbrand officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the service.

Barry was born on July 16, 1935 in Fall River MA, to Leroy H Jones and Dorthy H Jones. He was a 1954 graduate of Columbus High School.Like many of his generation he joined the Navy following graduation to fight for his country in the Korean War, which ended while he was in boot camp.

Upon leaving the Navy he worked briefly at the National Shirt Company. The remainder of his career was spent working at Coca Cola bottling in various position. He also worked part-time for Sears in the hardware department from the time it opened in Columbus for several decades.

He was active in various churches through the years. In his youth he was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church.  As an adult he was active at Gentian Baptist, Edgewood Baptist both in Columbus. Most recently he was involved in Stuart Baptist in Stuart VA, and a charter member of Grace Baptist also in Stuart VA.

He was active in the Patrick County Community Food Bank in Stuart VA he was an avid reader especially of the Bible and history.

Other than his parents he is preceded in death by the love of his life & wife of 43 years, Jacqueline Hartley Jones& Son of his heart Tom Dobson.

Survivors left to cherish his memory are his children; Katherine “Kathi” Lynn Jones Dobson, & Randolph “Randy” Clark Jones both of McDonough, GA. Brothers: Fred Jones (Barbara) of Tallahassee, FL, Leroy Jones of Woolwine, VA, sisters Jane Williams (Donald) of Ellerslie, GA Patsy Dean (Steve) of Hamilton, GA, nephews: Ted Jones (Sue) of Lancaster, PA, Michael (Glenda) of Trinity, NC, Eric Jones (Penny) of East Machias, ME, Greg Jones of Thomasville, GA, Adam (Catrina) of Meridian, ID, nieces: Vickie Southworth (Dan) of the Villages FL, Dorothy (Jack) of Lady Lake, FL, Cindy Bricker (John) of Athens, GA, Brittany Haines (Brad) of Fortson, GA, and Jordan Mitchell (Rhys) of Hermosillo, Mexico.
