Barbara Ellen Mcrae Hamer

Barbara Ellen McRae Hamer, 78, of Columbus, Georgia went to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 4, 2022, surrounded by her family. A loving mother and grandmother, she lived a virtuous life caring for her family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in the Chapel at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Tim Jones officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery.

Barbara was born October 5, 1943, in Mobile, Alabama to the late Havard Salter and Mary Salter Griesbauer. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Cooper Ferrell Hamer, brother, Aubrey Lane Salter, loving step-father, Christian Griesbauer, former husband, Melvin Owen McRae, and step-son, Grant Hamer.

She loved her family and her family loved her. She was strong in her Christian faith. Having lost her husband at an early age, she raised their three children to love the Lord, love their families and work hard. She loved music and is remembered singing Christian hymns and dancing to music in their loving home. Christmases and birthdays were always celebrated with an abundance of gifts and cheer. She provided for wonderful vacations to the beach where she loved the beautiful white sands and crystal-clear waters of the gulf.

Making a courageous decision, Barbara moved from her position at CB&T with the team to begin Total Systems (TSYS). She traveled the US and retired from TSYS after 25+ years, holding leadership positions such as Vice President and Associate Director. She always loved the people and is described by many as a wonderful servant leader.

Barbara is a longtime member of Calvary Baptist and attended Britt David Baptist Church for many years. Throughout the years, she volunteered in many roles within the church.

She is survived by her sons, Tim McRae (Jamie) and Glen McRae (Julie) of Valley, Alabama, daughter, Tracey McRae Richards (Hunter) of Midland, Georgia; Step-sons, Lane Hamer (Reba), and Mike Hamer; grandchildren, Brittany Smith, Spencer Dansby (Emily), Gage McRae (Raven), Catie Copplin (Greg), Harrison Richards, Morgan Currie (Kyle), Kyle Brooks, Sly Rosato, Miranda Hamer and Madelyn Hamer, great-grandchildren, Alyssa Smith, Tristan Smith, Kellin Connally, August McRae and Jack Currie.
