Barbara Ann Bailey Arthur

Barbara Ann Bailey Arthur, 91 died peacefully on November 26, 2023, at her home in Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday November 30, 2023 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Dick Reese and Rev. Thad Haywood officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the service.

Barbara graduated from EC Glass High School in 1948 and attended Lynchburg College. She was a devoted homemaker and loved gardening and growing plants. She was active in the Faculty Wives Club at Tennessee Tech University, the International Ministries at First Baptist Church in Cookeville, TN., and the Brookstone Garden Cub in Columbus, GA. When she was first married, she worked for the Charlottesville, VA School Board, as well as Cooperative Saving and Loan in Lynchburg, VA.

She is survived by her three children, son, Stephen Arthur of New Kent, VA, daughter, Susan Showers of Roswell, GA, son, David Arthur (Julie) of Ball Ground, GA, grandchildren, William and Bailey Showers of Atlanta, GA, Pate and Abigail Arthur of Ball Ground, GA, nephews, William R. Bailey lll (Melissa) of Farmville, VA, Dwayne Bailey (Dawn) of New Kent, VA, sister, Mary L. Ferguson of Lynchburg, VA as well as many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty plus years, William “Bill” James Arthur, parents, Bessie and Ralph Bailey, sister, Betty B. Hanks, brothers, William R. Bailey ll and Robert M. Bailey.

The family wants to thank her caregivers, Gina Mitchell and Junita Guthrie who took care of both Mom and Dad for over 8 years, the neighbors of Rudgate Road, Columbus Hospice, and St. Luke United Methodist Church for all their support during her illness.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Columbus Hospice, St. Luke United Methodist Church in Columbus, GA, or a charity of your choice.
