Gene Aubrey Wade, 77, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 26, 2011 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Wayne Hollaway officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery according to the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Wade was born January 27, 1934 in Cragford, AL son of the late John W. and Louise Mann Wade. Gene is survived by his loving wife Shirley of 25 years, son Steve Wade, daughter Debra Wade and granddaughter Courtney Wade. Also survived by his loving sister Juliaette Ivey and numerous family. Gene spent eight years in the Air Force serving his country. After his discharge from the Military, he attended college, began raising a family in California and started a career in the automobile industry. During the course of his career, he was general manager of several dealerships and then was able to realize his dream of owning his own dealership, Gene Wade Ford in Willows, CA.
After retirement, Gene moved back to Columbus, where he met the love of his life, Shirley. They were very active with friends and family. He was President of several homeowners associations.
Gene enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, tennis and running, but his real passion was playing golf with family and friends. His competitive spirit was evident for all of those who knew him. Gene also loved his numerous dogs over the years, but was comforted in the last years with Bitsy.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Laverne Wade.
Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Hirsch Wade of Columbus, GA, son, Steven T. Wade of West Lake Village, CA, daughter, Debra Lynn Wade of Elk Grove, CA, sister, Juliaette Ivey of Columbus, GA, granddaughter, Courtney Wade of San Francisco, CA, his dog, Bitsy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
