Arthur James Sanders

(Ret.) MSG Arthur James "Sandy" Sanders, 88, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Kindred Hospice.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Wynnbrook Baptist Church 500 River Knoll Way Columbus, GA 31904 with Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating. Interment will full military honors will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 5, 2018 at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church.
(Ret.) MSG Sanders was born October 6, 1929 in Lake Field Township, MI son of the late James and Lela Pickreign Sanders. He retired from the U.S. Army after serving 27 ½ years as a Master Sergeant and later worked in Appliance repair for over 30 years. During his military career, he received; the United Nations Service medal, Vietnam Service medal with 2 Bronze stars, Republic of V-N Campaign medal with 1960 device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, 3 Overseas Service Bars, Expert (M-14) and a Purple Heart.
He was a member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and served as an usher. He loved hunting, fishing and shopping for campers and cars. He also loved to tell stories.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Genievie Rost.
Survivors include his loving wife, Doris Jane Davis Sanders of Columbus, GA, children, Bonnie (Wade) Conklin, Connie (Bud) Toole, Timothy Sanders, Danny (Barbara) Sanders and Phillip (Cindy) Sanders, grandchildren, Rachel Hulsey, Sarah Jornigan, Amanda Stratton, Amber Young, Rebecca "Becky" Fiske and Charle Sanders, great-grandchildren, Blake Williams, Zach Williams, Jay Jornigan, Marissa Jornigan, Garett Jornigan, Alexander Young, Harrison Young, Adrianna Fiske and Makayla Fiske, one great-great grandchild, Ashlyn Williams, siblings, Beatrice Zuercher, Alice Borkowski, Diana Nelson and Harold Sanders, aunt, Mary Stien, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to DAV 1000 Victory Dr. Columbus, GA 31903 or to Kindred Hospice 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway Columbus, GA 31904.
