Arnold Gilbert Johnson, 90, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Kindred Hospice.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, AL. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Johnson was born August 4, 1927 in Holly Hill, KY son of the late Luther B. Johnson and Della June Flynn Johnson. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his military career, he achieved: the National Defense Service Medal w/OLC, Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), 9 Service Stripes World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and a Purple Heart Recipient. Mr. Johnson worked in Medical Supply for the Civil Service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, coon hunting and reading.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Heinz Johnson, siblings, Glenn Johnson, Estille Smith, Earnest Johnson and Melvin Johnson and brother-in-law, Herman Roberts.
Survivors include his loving wife, Waltraud Kohl Johnson of Columbus, GA, 10 children, Del Meadows, Doris Johnson (Bill), Mike Johnson (Lisa), Brigitte Serrano, Ingrid Murray (Tim), Vicky Ortega (Bill), Connie Garland, Sonja Jones, and Debra Bowles, daughter-in-law, Glenna Johnson, 20 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and siblings, Teddy Johnson (Mary), Shirley Roberts, Imogene Johnson and Eddie Dean Johnson.
