Annie Merle Jacobs Groman, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on the 19th of August, 2023, in Columbus, GA. Born on the 10th of April, 1923, in Rocky Head, Alabama, Merle lived a full and vibrant life that touched many.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at Evangel Church 5350 Veterans Pkwy Columbus, Georgia 31904 with Rev. Paul Thomas, Rev. Bud Rupel and Rev. Brad Evangelista officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Merle was known for her dedication to her family and her unwavering faith. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Ernest Alfred Groman, her daughter and son-in-law, Jean Groman Jones Phillips and Lewis Ned Jones, and her siblings, Nell Pierson Messer, Marvin M. Jacobs, Bethural Jacobs Holloway, and Eldora (Dodie) Jacobs Goodson.
Merle's legacy lives on through her surviving family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Jane G. Roberts (Troy) of Columbus, GA, and June G. Matlock (Glen) of Hamilton, GA. Merle was a cherished grandmother to her nine grandchildren, Jennifer R. Evangelista (Brad), Jefferson Troy Roberts (Beth), Jill Jones, Julie J. Edenfield (Lee), Jared Ned Jones (Allyson), James Groman Jones, Carie Matlock, Joshua Braun, and Jonathan Matlock (Melea). She was also blessed with 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, Joseph Evangelista, Jacob Evangelista, Arabella Evangelista, Abraham Evangelista, Annie Jacob McMullen, Bowden McMullen, Kaitlin Braun (Isaiah Rios), Haley Braun, Raines Edenfield, Davis Edenfield, Ned Jones, Maxwell Jones, Will Jones, Jack Jones, Landon Matlock, Lilly Ann Matlock, Parker Matlock, Hudson Matlock, Bryson Roberts, Evelyn Mae Braun, Roman Evangelista, Olivia Grace Jones and Liam James Jones all of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Merle is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members at Schomburg Jewelry.
Merle's professional life was marked by her dedicated service at Schomburg's Jewelers, from which she retired after many years of faithful work. Her colleagues at Schomburg's became an extended family to her, and she maintained these relationships long after her retirement. Merle's work ethic, integrity, and commitment to her craft were an inspiration to all who worked alongside her.
A woman of deep faith, Merle was an active member of Evangel Church in Columbus, Georgia. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a dedicated member of the Joint Heirs Sunday School Class. Merle's faith guided her through life's ups and downs, and she often credited her strength and resilience to her relationship with God. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering positivity, which she spread to all those around her.
Annie Merle Jacobs Groman's life was a testament to the power of faith, the importance of family, and the value of hard work. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be greatly missed, but her spirit will forever remain a beacon of love, hope, and strength for her family and friends.
