Annie Belle Wilkes Smith, 90, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, January 26, 2018 at Morningside Baptist Church 6065 Morningside Dr. Columbus, GA 31909 with Rev. Clint Strickland officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Smith was born October 17, 1927 in Pansey, AL daughter of the late Clarence and Mae Fannie Glass Wilkes. She worked as an LPN at the Medical Center and was a lifetime member of Morningside Baptist Church and active with the "Through the Years" Sunday school class. Mrs. Smith had a passion for cooking and quilting.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David E. Barker and her brother, Talmadge Wilkes.
Survivors include her husband, James "Smitty" E. Smith of Columbus, GA, children, Elbert Lee Powell (Jan) of Ray City, GA, Wilburn "Corky" Powell (Sue) of Perry, GA, Brenda Jean Pinter (Edell) of Blue Ridge, GA, Kimberly Ann Underwood (Dale) of Columbus, GA, Joseph Delray Barker (Lisa) and Charles Michael Barker (Vicki) all of Columbus, GA, brothers, Lee Rivers Wilkes of Columbus, GA and Wayne Wilkes of Atlanta, GA, sisters, Barbara Herren (John) of Houston, TX and Linda Sue Hughes (Pat) of Tampa, FL, sister-in-law, Carolyn Wilkes of Columbus, GA, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
