It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Annette Marie Waters, a devoted mother, loving wife, cherished grandmother, and a true friend to many.  She passed away on December 24, 2023 after battling cancer for several years throughout her life.

A service celebrating Annie’s life will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 30, 2023 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Annie was born on June 17, 1959 the daughter of Paul and Rosemarie. She graduated with a B.B.A in International Marketing, Math / Computer Science (Summa Cum Laude) from Columbus State University and a M.S. in Counseling Psychology / Testing and Assessment (Summa Cum Laude) from Georgia State University.  Annie worked for TSYS for over 26 years, ultimately working as a Senior Director, leading teams and research projects across the entire world to include Mexico, Europe, and Canada. She was admired by so many for her relentless devotion to her work.

While Annie valued hard work and education, being a mother to her son, Alexander Rey Santiago, was her greatest blessing. In 2019, Annie became a doting Nene to her granddaughter Grace and in 2021, her grandson Luke. She found immense joy in the company of her grandchildren. Her eyes sparkled with pride as she witnessed the next chapter of life unfold through the eyes of her only son's children, leaving an enduring legacy of love. Annie was known for her boundless love, she was a nurturing mother, a beacon of strength, and a testament to a fighting spirit.

As a previous cancer survivor, Annie drew inspiration and regained her confidence from cycling. She bought her first bike in 1998 and has confronted fear and met those challenges ever since. She joined various cycling groups across the nation, serving as the board of directors for the West Georgia chapter of Georgia Bikes, and Vice President of the Columbus cycling club – ultimately working up to completing several 100-mile and 50-mile bike rides.  In 2000, these challenges led her to her loving husband Philip, whom she admired so much.

In 1999, Annie met Philip Waters in Texas at a cycling event for cancer survivors.Philip and Annie shared in their love of cycling, leading to a deep love, and in 2008, Philip moved from California so they could be together.  On October 12, 2011 Annie and Philip were married in Alaska.  Her son, Alexander, arranged and officiated the wedding, ensuring it was a precious, memorable ceremony.

As a wife, Annie exemplified the essence of partnership and shared dreams, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love. Despite life's challenges, she faced them with resilience and a tenacious spirit, inspiring those around her. She was always quick to forgive and immensely understanding.Annie’s unwavering compassion touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on her family and friends.

Annie left us too soon, and the ache of her absence is felt deeply. Her departure serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with those we hold dear.

As we mourn her passing, we take solace in knowing that Annie is now at peace, finding comfort in the arms of Christ. May her spirit find eternal tranquility, and may her memory inspire us to embrace the values of love, compassion, and resilience that she so beautifully embodied.

May Annie's soul rest in peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and strength for all who knew and loved her.

Annie was preceded in death by her father Paul Dyer and is survived by her mother, Rosemarie Dykes, husband, Philip Waters, her only son and daughter-in-law, Alexander and Carlie Santiago, and her two grandchildren, Grace and Luke.

Donations to American Cancer Society and City of Hope would be greatly appreciated.
