Amelia Floyd Stevenson, 76 of Columbus died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Columbus Specialty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Cusseta Road Church of Christ, 3013 Cusseta Rd. Columbus, GA 31903 with Dr. Elliott C. Glasgow officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 till 8 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA. The following will serve as pallbearers; grandchildren, L. Joe Dennis, Jr., Anthony Bernard Coates, Jerold Earl Blount and John Brandon Coates, nephews, Mickey Floyd, Larry Bynum, Gregory Maye and Eugene Maye, son-in-law, John Coates, and alternate-friend, Bruce Turner.
Mrs. Stevenson was born August 10, 1934 in Wetumpka, Alabama daughter of the late William Floyd and Gertha Lou Kindell Floyd. She retired after 30 years as a school teacher having taught most of her career at Dimon Elementary School. She was a member of Cusseta Road Church of Christ, Poinsettias Social Club, Eastern Star and Kiwanis Club. She graduated from Alabama State University and Georgia State University.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Staff Sergeant Willie B. Pratt and Sergeant First Class James Kenneth Stevenson; sister, Ester Bynum and brother, William Floyd, Jr.
Survivors include her two daughters, June Pratt of Tallahassee, FL and Peggy Pratt Coates of Columbus, GA; two brothers, George Floyd of Opelika, AL and McKinley Floyd of Montgomery, AL; three sisters, Annie Marie Maye of Orlando, FL, Deborah Kennedy of Decatur, AL and Doris Vauss of Hudson, OH; four grandchildren, L. Joe Dennis, Jr, Anthony Bernard Coates, Jerold Earl Blount and John Brandon Coates; three great grandchildren, Felicity Coates, Jeremiah M. Blount and Joshua C. Dennis and several nieces and nephews.
