Alton Thomas Henry

Alton Thomas Henry passed away peacefully at the age of 93 Friday, July 26, 2024 at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, August 2, 2024 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Alton was born in Seminole County to the late Leon and Ruth Henry. They moved to Columbus when he was a young boy.  He graduated from Jordan High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War Era. Following his time in the service he worked in the Textile Industry until retiring in 1994 from Exxon Mobil formally Callaway Chemicals.

Alton was a loving husband, father and brother. He loved golf and played whenever he could. He also loved fishing and always looked forward to his two yearly fishing trips in Apalachicola Florida.

Several years after the death of his wife Dale Slocumb Henry, he married JoAnn Slaughter Henry and they moved to Orange Beach Alabama. He made many new friends and will always be remembered as a “True Southern Gentleman”.  Alton and JoAnn are members of Orange Beach Methodist Church.

Alton was also preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Henry Painter and his brother, Robert Leon Henry.

Alton is survived by his wife, JoAnn Henry, daughter, Joan Scott (Randy), brother, Lawerence Henry (Priscilla), sister-in-law, Betty Leary Henry, step-daughters, Charlyn Fordyce (Mark Sherinian), Lauren Harris (Stan).

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Orange Beach Methodist Church.
