Altheia Rae Hancock, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023, in Columbus, Georgia, after a long illness.
Born on February 6, 1953, in Albany, Georgia, Altheia was 70 years old at the time of her passing. Altheia was a woman of kindness and thoughtfulness, always putting others before herself. Her heart was full of love, and she shared that love generously with everyone she knew. Known for her warm smile and gentle spirit, Altheia was a beacon of comfort and compassion to all who knew her. Altheia was the beloved wife of Jackie Hancock, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Their bond was a testament to their enduring love and mutual respect. Altheia was also a devoted mother to her daughter, Amy Wilkinson, and sons, Jeremy Hancock and Chris Hancock. Her role as a mother extended beyond her immediate family as she lovingly embraced her son-in-law, Dusty Wilkinson, and daughter-in-law, Whitney Hancock. One of Altheia's greatest joys was being a grandmother. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, Caylen Hancock (Hunter), Jacob Hancock, Parker Hancock, Andrew Wilkinson, Christopher Hancock, and Amber Hancock. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she was their adoring "Nanny and Meme”. Altheia is survived by her sisters, Patricia Rich, Nancy (David) Hildebrand, brother, Randy (Lila) Johnson, sisters-in-law, Jan Woodham, Kelly (Ray) Young, brothers-in-law, Paul Hancock, Tim Hinson, and her favorite Aunt Evelyn Hammett (Aunt Eddie). She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom she held dear. Altheia was preceded in death by her father JD Johnson, mother, Zelma Johnson, brother, Phillip Johnson, father-in-law, Lee Hinson and Lamar Hancock, mother-in-law, Grace Hinson and Betty Hancock, and casino buddy Lynn Spidle. Altheia spent her life as a homemaker, creating a nurturing and loving environment for her family. She was dedicated to making her home a place where all were welcome and where love and kindness were always present. Altheia's care and attention to her home were a reflection of her commitment to her family and her gift for creating a space that was filled with warmth and love. Altheia had a zest for life and a love for spending time with her grandchildren. Whether it was baking pound cakes, reminiscing old times, or simply sitting and chatting, Altheia cherished these moments and made them special. Her grandchildren will remember her for her endless love, her warm hugs, and her ability to make them feel special and loved. Altheia will be remembered for her kind heart, her loving nature, and her generous spirit. She touched many lives with her warmth and kindness, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May Altheia Rae Hancock rest in peace, knowing she was loved and cherished by many.
