Allen “Al” Shelby Hood, Sr. 79 died Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA.

A Celebration of life will be held 3:00 PM  Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907

Mr. Hood was born October 25, 1944 in Columbus, GA to the late Dalton Shelby Hood and Sara Yates Hood. He retired from Sam’s Club after 29 years of dedicated service with many of those years in Asset Protection. While serving his country in the Unites States Air Force, he was part of an elite team known as the Para-Rescuers. Although extremely dangerous, his team would deploy to an area where a plane had gone down and perform a fire rescue mission.

Mr. Hood was a loving Father to his 3 kids and a devoted husband for 55 years to his late wife, Johnnie. He spent many years coaching his sons and daughter in Little League baseball, football and softball. He was known as “Coach Hood” to many and “Papa” to his Grandkids.

Mr. Hood is survived by his sons, Shelby Hood of Buena Vista, GA, Preston Wade “Goat” Hood (Summer) of Fayetteville, GA, daughter, Leslie Hood Ethridge (Terry) of Dothan, AL, sister, Harriett Hood Giglio of Brandon, MS, grandchildren, Josh Martin, Dalton Hood, Seth Hood, Eben Boggs, Zander Hood, Kaitlin Manning and great-grandchild, Christian Martin.
