Allen Jackson Hamilton, 70, of Columbus, GA died Monday, January 18, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice at Franciscan Woods after a courageous 4 year battle with cancer.
Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 21, 2016 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Robert Beckum officiating. A private interment will be held. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mr. Hamilton was born April 4, 1945 in Sylvester, GA son of the late Jack and Julia Bozeman Hamilton. He was a U.S. Air Force and Navy Veteran a 1969 graduate of the University of Georgia and retired after 20 years as a Criminal Investigator with the U.S. Department of Treasury. After his retirement, Mr. Hamilton worked for the U.S. Marshall Service assigned to the Federal Court House in Columbus, GA.
Mr. Hamilton was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and volunteered with the Samaritan Fund. He was also a member of the Rose Hill Masonic Lodge #484 F&AM were he was Secretary and Treasurer for numerous years, a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, honorary Senior DeMolay, treasurer/advisor of the Columbus Chapter Order of Demolay, former Treasurer of the West Georgia Daylight Lodge #760 F&AM and was a avid woodworker.
Other than his parents, Mr. Hamilton was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Hamilton of Columbus, GA, daughter, Jacquelyn Vaughn of Ocala, FL, sons, Michael Hamilton of Ocala, FL, Jarred Hamilton of Columbus, GA, Hunter Hamilton (Ashley) of Smyrna, GA, brother, Rex Hamilton (Joan) of Canton, GA, 7 grandchildren, Joel, Jacob, Julia, Justin, Jeb, Sydney and Porter, one great-grandchild, Waylon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice 100 Brookstone Centre Parkway Columbus, GA 31904 or to the Samaritan Fund in care of St. Luke United Methodist Church 1104 2nd Ave. Columbus, GA 31901 or your favorite charity.
