Alice Marie (Allen) Upchurch
August 4, 1929 — July 4, 2021
Alice Marie Allen Upchurch, 91, of Columbus, GA died July 4, 2021, at Piedmont Columbus Regional Northside. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907, with Reverend Rodney Porter officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery immediately following the service.
Mrs. Alice was born August 4, 1929 in Lagrange, GA to the late Lawson Lovic and Arrie Dent Allen. She was a member of Striplin Terrace United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and her family and church family meant everything to her. She retired from the Columbus Consolidated Government and remained a member of the Retired City Employees Association. After her retirement, Alice and Harold became independent contractors with the US Army Corps of Engineers. They enjoyed their work which led them to so many of our national parks.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of 51 years, Harold Eugene Upchurch, Sr. and siblings; Louise Hall, Dorothy Upchurch, Junior Allen, James Allen, Eula Hatcher, Hazel Jones, and Terrell Allen.
Survivors include her children, Nancy Marie Garner (Dale) of Leesburg, FL, Harold Upchurch, Jr. (Dede) of Waverly Hall, GA, Harriet O’Neal (David) of Waverly Hall, GA, Wesley Upchurch (Missy) of Ellerslie, GA; brother, Aubrey Dent Allen (Becky) of Monroe, GA; grandchildren, Michelle Hartin (Andy) of Oviedo, FL, DeAun Kirven (Philip) of Columbus, GA, Tripp Upchurch (Ginny) of Columbus, GA, Brian O’Neal of Columbus, GA, Michael O’Neal of Athens, GA, Jarrod Yarbrough (Tatum) of Pine Mountain, GA, Haley Yarbrough of Columbus, GA, Conner O’Neal of Columbus, GA, Daniel Rushing (Holly) of Phenix City, AL; great grandchildren, Andy Allen Hartin, Elliott Riggs Kirven, Ella Rivers Kirven, Gabriel Clark Yarbrough, Hunter Lewis Rushing; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
