Alfred Steven Gaultney, known affectionately as Steve to his friends and family, passed away peacefully from natural causes on January 20, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on January 28, 1942, in Columbus, Georgia, where he also spent his final moments, Steve's life was marked by his loving nature, wisdom, and an unwavering sense of optimism.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Judy Evans Gaultney, with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. He was a devoted father to Angela Gaultney, Gina Kite, and the late John Alan. His legacy continues through his cherished grandsons, Jaxon and Tucker Kite, who brought immense joy to his life. Steve is also lovingly remembered by his brothers, Mike Gaultney, Don Gaultney, and Bill Gaultney, along with their families, including Shirley Gaultney, the late Gypsy Gaultney, and the memory of his brother Tommy Gaultney, survived by Vicki Gaultney. His sister Kay Davis and her husband Doug, along with his in-laws, the late Raymond Evans Jr. and his wife Kaye, George Evans and his wife Faye, Jill Clark and her husband Randy, and Randi Milner and her husband Chuck, also mourn his loss. Steve's extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews will forever hold him in their hearts.
An alumnus of Columbus College, Steve studied Pre-Law before embarking on a successful career in sales. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish G & G Electronics in 1976, a company specializing in low voltage integration for commercial construction. As the owner until 2017, Steve's leadership and vision not only built a reputable business but also fostered a workplace that many considered family.
Steve's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed all manner of outdoor sports. His green thumb was evident in the beautiful flowers he planted with Judy, and together they created a haven on their family farm. Beach trips with his loved ones were among his favorite getaways, and Steve's joyous singing and daily walks were a testament to his appreciation of life's simple pleasures.
Known for his loving nature, Steve was the cornerstone of his family. His wisdom guided them through challenges, while his optimism reminded them to always look forward with hope. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." These words embody the life that Steve lived and the impact he had on those around him.
Steve's life was a testament to the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the joy of pursuing one's passions. His memory will be cherished and his lessons carried forward by those who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to Alfred Steven Gaultney, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared and the love he gave us.
Steve's presence will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. As we reflect on his life, we find comfort in knowing that Steve's journey was full of love, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. His was a life well-lived, and his legacy will endure through the lives of those he touched.
