SGT. Albert A. Chevrette, 90, died Monday, October 12, 2015 at Magnolia Manor. Born in Woonsocket on November 24, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph and Flora Boucher Chevrette.
Funeral services were held at St. Anne Catholic Church with a graveside service held at Parkhill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Albert joined the Army at 17 years old and was a tank commander in the 9th Armored Remagen "Phantom" division in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII, and became a Purple Heart Recipient along with many decorations. After the war, Albert married Lilli Hermann, his German girlfriend in Germany. They came back and made their home in Columbus, Georgia where Albert worked many years at Fort Benning.
He was survived by a daughter, Lorraine Thompson of Georgia, granddaughter, Allison LeJeune and her companion, Michael Carden, Jr. She was his Guardian and took good care of him and loved him so much. He also leaves two sisters, Florence Brodeur and Doris Beauregard, both of Woonsocket. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Carmen Wright, Mandy Dove (Homer), Desireé Stan (Lazlo) and Eric Thompson (Heather), five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jamie Howard was his caretaker for several years; a loving lady that took him shopping and to doctor appointments and so forth. It was greatly appreciated. He was predeceased by his wife, Lilli, daughter, Arlene Wills, and five brothers, Joseph, Leo, Omer, Aldor and Theodore Chevrette.
Albert was a sweet, loving man and loved his family so much. He will be greatly missed. He was an outstanding veteran and we are so very proud of him.
