Alan Sean Pruitt, 54, of Columbus, GA passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House succumbing to cancer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM, Sunday, September 7, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Sean was born June 27, 1960 in Atlanta, GA to Dorothy Jeanette (Neill) Pruitt and Kenneth Kealus Pruitt. He lived most of his life in Columbus, GA, but as part of a military family he also lived in Alabama, Kansas, Texas, Amberg, Grafenwoehr, and Darmstadt Germany, where he graduated from Frankfurt American High School. In Darmstadt, Germany, as a high-school student, Sean was allowed to be a member of the USAER boxing team. He was a nationally ranked amateur boxer having won 2 State Championships and 2 Regional Championships. He competed in New York for the National Welter Weight Title and was invited to participate in the Olympic trials of 1980. That year, President Carter withheld the USA team because of human rights violations in Russia, the host nation. Sean was selected as a member of the international team. He had an exhibition fight with Evander Holyfield at Comer Gym in Columbus, with Sean winning by decision. After Sean's boxing days were over, he competed and won the Columbus ‘Bad Man' contest.
Sean is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thelma (Fanning) Neill and Mayburn Neill; paternal grandparents, Agnes (Shepard) Pruitt and Kendrick Kealus Pruitt; aunt, Shirley Pruitt Vass; and nephew, Aaron Blake Reynolds.

Survivors other than his parents include his daughter, Ashley Pruitt Carden; grandchildren, Collin Ty Pruitt, Brody Blake Carden, Brielle Colleen Carden, and Bristol Nicole Carden; sisters, Michelle Pruitt Griffith (Dwight), Lynne Pruitt Williamson (Wesley); nephew, Allen Chase Williamson, and numerous relatives outside the Columbus area.

Special thanks to friend, Sherry Heaton and Reba of Columbus Hospice along with all the Staff of Columbus Hospice for their tender care in Sean's last weeks.
