Walter "Jerry" Gerald Mcconnell

Walter Gerald McConnell (Jerry), 81, of Box Springs, GA, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 26, 2022 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Ken Dawson officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will recieve friends Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Mr. McConnell was born on November 4, 1940, in Columbus, Georgia.  He had a long career in sales and management and was involved in youth league football and baseball throughout his son’s childhood and high school years.  He was an excellent coach and mentor to many young men through youth league sports.

Jerry’s favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family, especially his 2 grandchildren. He loved to hunt and fish, was an excellent cook, a skilled gardener, and a true Alabama football fan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Driver McCutcheon, grandmother, Addie Irene Driver, grandfather, Walter Clifton Driver, and brother Bobby McConnell (Lis).

He is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law Walter Jr. and Beth McConnell, granddaughter Rachael McConnell, grandson Walter McConnell III, sisters Gwen Morrison (Euan) of Panama City, Florida, Judy McCutcheon (Lee) of Columbus, Georgia, Janet Heartsill (Kimball) of Jacksonville, Florida, and several special nieces and nephews.
