Ruby King Mixon, 93, of Phenix City, AL. died Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at The Gardens at Calvary.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 14, 2022, in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Wayne Anthony officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907

Mrs. Mixon was born July 15, 1928, in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late Wilbur King and Lillie King. She was educated in Columbus schools and graduated from Jordan Vocational High School. She later attended Columbus College and Georgia College.

She was employed as a Parks and Recreation leader in Muscogee County which later merged with the Columbus Consolidated Government. She retired after 30 years from Waddell Elementary School and Crystal Valley Recreation Center. She was awarded a Lifetime Membership in the Waddell Elementary PTA for her work with children. She was also employed as Activities Director at Pine and Oak Manor Nursing Homes, for over 40 years. She retired in 2008 at the age of 80. She won many awards at various nursing home conventions for her work as well as for her creative scrapbooks. During this time, she served in various leadership roles and was the past President of the Georgia Society of Nursing Home Activities Directors.

Many children benefited from her supervision in after-school and summer activities in the Midland and Crystal Valley communities. She spent many hours in teaching arts and crafts resulting in numerous awards and ribbons at the Chattahoochee Valley Fair. She was well-loved and respected by everyone.

She received a Special Peoples Award sponsored by WTVM Channel 9 News. She was an active member of the St. Frances Hospital Auxiliary as a Pink Lady and was happiest when she was serving others. Ruby was a member of Midland Methodist Church in Midland, GA.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hinton Mixon, brothers, John Robert King and Jack King, and sisters, Lillian King McLeod, Margaret King Jenkins, and Betty King Leachman.

Survivors include her children, Cheryl Mixon Smith of Phenix City, AL, Debbie Mixon Bowden (Mike) of Phenix City, AL, Joey Mixon (Kim) of Phenix City, AL, and Billy Mixon (Meghan) of Smiths Station, AL. Grandchildren, Chris Lammons (Glori) of Auburn, AL, Leigh Ann Barbaree (Shane) of Phenix City, AL, Margaret Moss (Jeremiah) of Phenix City, AL, Brooke Marcum (Charles) of Phenix City, AL, Rebecca Harcourt (Franklin) of Phenix City, Brady Bowden (Mary Jane) of Phenix City, AL, Blake Bowden Barnes (Matt) of Macon, GA, Brad Bowden (Sally) of Columbus, GA, Wendy Mixon of Atlanta, GA, Matt Mixon (Katie)of Phenix City, Chelsea Lawrence (Garrett) of Columbus, GA, Tyler Mixon of Columbus, GA, Brooklynn Mixon of Smiths Station, AL, Emily Mixon of Smiths Station, AL,  Abby Jo Mixon of Smiths Station, AL. Great grandchildren, Brooks Barbaree, Sawyer Moss, Sloane Moss, Mary Stewart Lammons, Ann Bradford Lammons, Millie Marcum, Mack Marcum, Parker Mixon, Chase Mixon, Livi Kate Mixon, Avery Harcourt, Mary Harcourt, Ford Bowden, Baker Bowden, Nett Bowden, Everett Lawrence, brother, Fred King (Carolyn) - Novato, CA, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends, Larry and Susan Carter and Kathleen Worthington
