Mary Jenkins Howard, 88, of Columbus, Georgia died Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Georgia with Rev. Mike McBride officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 6, 2014 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at McMullen Funeral Home. A private Interment will held at Parkhill Cemetery.
Mary Howard was born September 20, 1925 in Sardis, Georgia daughter of the late Thomas Hillis Jenkins and Nancy Reddick Jenkins. After earning a degree, she became a member of the Army Cadet Nurse Corps at Toumey Hospital in Sumter, South, Carolina. Upon completion of the cadet nurses training she was top in her class and became a Registered Nurse. She served as a public health nurse in Burke County, Georgia for many years and had a long career as a registered nurse at the Medical Center, she later retired from Equifax.
Mary was a member of Trinty Temple Church. She sang in the choir and taught a senior Sunday school class. Even in her last day she spent time praying with prayer groups. Her faith was strong and her encouragement was helpful to others.
Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband John C. Howard.
Survivors include her brother: Thomas H. Jenkins of Columbus:, nephew; Brantley Jenkins of Columbus, niece; Harriet Denny and her husband Jim of Woodstock, Georgia
