Maria Riley, 88, of Columbus, GA died Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at her home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Reverend Michael Stiggers officiating. Interment will follow to Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Riley was born June 7, 1927 in Titel, Yugoslavia daughter of the late Alexander and Margaret Barchet Marinkond. She worked as a packer for Sunshine Biscuit and was Catholic by faith.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, James Groat, and brothers, George and Stephen.
Survivors include her husband of over 63 years, Jimmy Dean Riley of Columbus, GA, daughters, Erna "Anna" Groat of Eugene, OR, Betty West-Schierling (Roy) of Lincoln, CA, Margaret Shafer (Charles) and Linda Jones (Ross) all of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, Kevin Groat (Donna), Chris Groat (Jill), Trevor West (Julie), Travis West, Lyle West (Gina), Michael Shafer (Kacy), Michelle Shafer and Ashley Finch, and great grandchildren, Daniella, Jessica, Colton, Aubrey, Jake, Jenna, Taylor, Cody, Kyle, Danielle, Alyssa, Jackson, and Zachary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital 5901 Peachtree Dunwoody Rd. Atlanta, GA 30328.
