José González, 57, of Columbus, GA lost his battle to cancer on Friday, August 26, 2022 at his home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, September 1, 2022 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will welcome friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the funeral home. Following the service, interment with Military Honors will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
José was born March 12, 1965 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. He joined the Army as a young man, faithfully serving his country. As a young soldier, he was awarded the Southwest Asia Service medal with three bronze stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, two overseas service ribbons, and an Army achievement medal. He served in The Gulf War, and Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He was honorably discharged after being injured in the line of duty. Despite no longer being in the Army, he still was a soldier in Christ. José was a hard-working family man. He loved WWE wrestling, and all things Marvel. Despite his illness, his sense of humor and wit were never lost.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Maggie González of Columbus, GA; children, Gileska García (Azur) of Box Springs, GA, Anyelica González (Yamarie Colón) of Collingswood, NJ; mother, Rosa González; granddaughter, Gianne González of Box Springs, GA; siblings, Edie Alberto González of Puerto Rico, Bridget Juarbe of Long Island, NY, Elías Rosario of Puerto Rico.
