Dewey H. Alford, 78, of Cataula, GA, died Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Columbus Hospice House.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Pastor Matt Rustin officiating. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dewey was born May 19, 1939 in Columbus, GA son of the late Cleveland Dewey and Estelle Miller Alford. He was a supervisor at Pillowtex until he retired in 2001. After retiring, he enjoyed working for 12 and a half years with the University of Georgia and the 4-H Program in Harris County until he retired on June 30, 2015. Dewey also started the Jail Ministry in Hamilton, GA, going each Sunday to counsel, encourage, and teach the Word of God. Many new believers became Christians and stayed in touch after returning to their homes. He was a founding member of New Harvest Church in Hamilton. Dewey was a good man who loved the Lord and his family and was loved in return. He touched the lives of many young people and they all loved "Mr. Dewey."

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David Keith Alford and Jeffery Scott Alford and one sister-in-law, Betty Jane Alford.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Martha Jean Alford of Cataula, GA; two granddaughters, Megan and Taylor Alford and great-granddaughter, Allie all of Eastman, GA; one sister, Jeannie H. McGuire; five brothers, H. Denton Alford (Linda) of Cataula, GA, Carlton E. Alford (Brenda) of LaGrange, GA, John I. Alford of Cataula, GA, Jerry L. Alford (Rebecca) of Cataula, GA and Larry E. Alford (Pat) of Hamilton, GA; brother-in-law, Billy Gibson of Columbus, GA.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to New Harvest Church, 80 Palmetto Creek Lane Hamilton, GA 31811 or to the Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909.
